Charlene Butler, Vice-Chair

Charlene Butler is an accomplished business executive and board director with over 30 years of experience leading and transforming organizations in a variety of sectors, including energy, insurance, government, non-profit and consulting. She has 20+ years’ experience devising strategy and leading transformational change for organizations. She holds a BComm in risk management and insurance, a BSc in actuarial science, and an MBA in natural resources energy and environment.
Charlene is a full-time board director with 15+ years’ experience, providing boards an understanding of how enterprise risk management needs to be incorporated into strategy if businesses are to thrive, not just survive, in a rapidly changing world. She is a passionate believer that organizations have a leadership role to play in changing the global picture, and that organizations who consider long-term strategies will outperform those that do not. In 2022 she received her Global Competent Board designation in environmental, social and governance standards.
In addition to her role with the Actuarial Profession Oversight Board, Charlene’s other board appointments include the Alberta Lawyer’s Indemnity Association, the Bow Valley Primary Care Network and ChatterHigh, an educational organization. She is past chair of the Alberta Automobile Insurance Regulatory Board and past board member for the University of Alberta.
