Marian Passmore is an experienced legal, regulatory and policy advisor, and counsel with expertise in corporate governance, securities regulatory policy, and applying behavioural science with a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of retail investors and financial consumers. She is currently Senior Legal Counsel in the Investor Office at the Ontario Securities Commission. While Director of Policy and Chief Operating Officer at the Canadian Foundation for the Advancement of Investor Rights (FAIR Canada), Marian provided the retail investor perspective in numerous areas of securities regulatory policy through meetings with government, regulators, written submissions, reports, media interviews and as a panellist.
 
Marian is the co-researcher and co-author of FAIR Canada’s Report on Vulnerable Investors: Elder Abuse, Financial Exploitation, Due Influence and Diminished Mental Capacity (2017) and a co-founder of Canada’s first Investor Protection Clinic at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. Marian’s prior roles include Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs at Advocis, Legal Counsel at Ernst & Young and Litigation Associate at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt.
 
Marian has a law degree from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law and, as a Commonwealth Scholar, a master of science (Econ) degree in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Marian obtained her bachelor of arts (Hons) degree in political science from McGill University.
